Flor de Alcatraz Drill Team

Escaramuza Charra Flor de Alcatraz is a Mexican, all-female equestrian drill team riding side saddle to choreographed and synchronized maneuvers to music.
We are a group of girls all in the junior age range 15 and under, all born in Iowa with the same love for horses and this daring sport.
Our team consists of 8 members who execute daring feats and precise drill team maneuvers, like quadrangles, pinwheels, suicide crossings and many more. Our routine consists of twelve moves/steps plus a main entry and main exit, all of this while riding side saddle using only one stirrup and one spur. A second part of our performance consists of two to three riders showing their reining skills with their horse, again all while riding side saddle.

Escaramuza attire plays a big role in our performance symbolizing our history and culture. The dresses are based on historical uniforms worn during the revolution in which women were involved along with men. The attire for Escaramuza competition has very strict guidelines like allowing only certain kinds of cottons, traditional colors and artisan embroidery. Our sombreros are also highly embellished and play the role of the only item to protect the rider's head in case of an accidental fall. All drill members must match their attire and any accessories.
What the horses wear is also strictly guided as all eight horses must wear matching saddles, saddle pads and tack.
We love our sport, culture and horses and we hope to be able to show Minnesota what Escramuza Charra Flor De Alcatraz works very hard at all winter long,
