Conformation Analysis: For Artists, Horsemen and Breeders

Horses have been designed according to a beautiful, specific blueprint. How each horse varies or adheres to that blueprint determines their individual physical abilities. Candace will demonstrate, with several horses, an easy, simple way to evaluate a horse’s blueprint using a measuring tape and masking tape! She will explain how to find the bone points and muscle groups that make each horse a physical machine, what these measurements mean for each horse and how one might use this knowledge. This analysis will help all who work with or love horses. Artists will be able to transfer the information on equine proportions to their art for better representation and realism. Horseman and breeders will be able to assess their own stock and optimize their training or breeding practices, based on what they learn here about each individual horse, and how to evaluate them to determine their best individual physical abilities.

Candace Liddy is a full member of the prestigious AAEA, dedicated to Equine art at its highest level. She does many commissions for both private and public customers. She has taught equine sculpting, horse conformation and anatomy to horse and art enthusiasts and collectors around the country. She also gives private lessons in her home studio as well as at the Kentucky Horse Park as well as other venues. Many group classes have been with the AAEA, horse registries and Breed Associations, 4H and Pony Clubs. Sizes of her sculptures range from tabletop to life size and bove.
