Obstacle Challenges at Expo 2022!
Breeds at Expo Open Obstacle
Challenge
Thursday,
April 14 Coliseum 8:30am to 10:00am
All breed representatives at Expo are invited to apply for a
spot in the Thursday only Breeds at Expo Obstacle Challenge. Contact Barb Whiteis at barb@happyanimalbedding.com for information if you are a breed rep at Expo and would
like to enter. There is no charge to
participate.
The first portion of the 90 minute session will be a
practice warm up/course walk through to acquaint horse and rider with the
approximately ten obstacle stations which might include:
Steps
Jumps
Gallop with Flag
Barber pole - lope gait both directions
Serpentine
Go Thru wagon tunnel
Rope/Pole Gate
Get off, have horse lunge over poles while standing on the
mounting block, get back on using a mounting block.
Fast lope
Roll backs
Backing up around obstacles
Side passing over a pole
Judging will be based on obstacle navigation, completion and
horsemanship. Speed through the course
will be a factor as well. Decisions of
the judge is final.
Clinic and Obstacle Challenge Jackpot Competition with
Michael Gascon

Announcing a new Obstacle Event at the 2022 Expo limited to
10 contestants. Event will include
clinic time with Michael Gascon culminating in a jackpotted competition! The Obstacle Event will begin on Friday in
the Coliseum where clinician Michael Gascon will school the riders from 8:30am
to 10:00am on various obstacle techniques and strategies. On Saturday, again in
the Coliseum from 8:30-10:00am, Michael will conduct a short schooling review
and then the 10 riders will take part in the Jackpot Expo Obstacle Run.
No more than 10 riders will participate. Fee for a Thursday and Friday night stall at
Expo, bedding, one admission wristband to Expo and entry into the Jackpot
competition is $175.00. An Expo Stall contract must be completed. Money prizes
will be awarded 1st through 4th place.
The course will consist of about 10 obstacles combining
horsemanship maneuvers and obstacles. The course will be judged on completion and fastest time.
Obstacles may include:
ramps
steps
drags
carrying items
jumps
circling
tunnel
Horsemanship tasks may include:
lope/gait at speed
sidepass
backing around obstacles
serpentine
stopping
