3:00-3:45 Saturday
On Track in front of Grandstand
Escaramuza is the beauty, art and bravery in the sport of Charreria (Mexico’s national
sport/Mexican rodeo). They’re the only female riders in a Charreada. This tradition dates
back to Mexico’s revolution where Adelitas (women soldiers) would ride horseback to distract
their enemies in battle. Now they’re represented as a synchronized choreographed team
riding side saddle in beautiful, vibrant attire. Their choreography is consistent on crosses
and turns all while galloping and using a side saddle. Every single item on them has to be
exactly the same as another. This includes earrings, spurs, dresses, saddles, tack, etc.

Afternoon Presentation on the Track
Watch the drill, the fancy trick ropers, the spinning riders
– all part of the presentation by the Escaramuzas Amazones de Minnesota based
in Ham Lake, MN. This team of nine
female riders will demonstrate their synchronized routine of crosses and spins
performed to music while riding side saddle. Each movement the girls do has a name and will be explained. You’ll learn about the requirements of their
sport including their matching attire and tack and a little about their horses. In addition, see three riders demonstrate the
Carrera de Giros – the spin race and their skill at sliding stops while Charros
in fancy attire and tack demonstrate the art of trick roping.
